Principal CDM & Safety was established as an independent CDM, Principal Design and Safety Consultancy to offer impartial advice and assistance specifically focusing on CDM’15 and safety in the construction sector.
Having effectively delivered the role of Planning Supervisor & CDM Coordinator we are ideally placed to continue this skill set into the provision of the CDM Advisor & Principal Designer roles. Our aim is to ensure Clients and Design Teams have access to competent advice and assistance whilst demonstrating best practice and value for money.
We also assist Contractors with site based Health and Safety requirements including assistance with Temporary Works Design to ensure compliance with CDM’15 and other applicable safety legislation.
Principal Design Competence = Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Training
Skills – Principal CDM & Safety will proactively promote and develop the risk reduction strategy for the project throughout the design process, following the Principles of Prevention to deliver a project that is safe to build, use and maintain.

Experience – with over 15 years’ experience in construction and design sector, working on projects ranging from small domestic extensions to the £60m Fire Reinstatement Works at the Mackintosh Building and everything in between.

Working with the Design Team and the Client to ensure full compliance with CDM’15 from conception to completion, focusing on Design Risk Management to ensure that the design process follows the Principles of Prevention. The aim of this process is to ensure that the project is safe to build, use and maintain. On completion we will produce the project Health and Safety File to highlight any residual risks.
Working with the Client team to ensure that they are aware of their duties under CDM’15. This will include the compilation of Pre-construction Information, assembly of a Project Team with the required level of Competence, review the Contractors Construction Phase Plan and undertake CDM reviews throughout the project to ensure the required safety standards are established and maintained throughout the project.
This service can be carried out for both Clients and Contractors, the purpose of the inspection/audit is to provide a snapshot of how effective and well implemented the health and safety management arrangements are for a specific site. This can prove to be a proactive tool to identify any failings in the arrangements the role will also include advice on how to rectify any potential issues.
It is a requirement to have access to a competent person for Health and Safety issues, however, it is not always reasonably practicable to have this resource in house. We assist companies with this role and develop tailormade Health and Safety Management System, this will also assist with SSIP Accreditation. This role is provided on a retained basis with different levels of service as required.
